How Often We’ll See You

Up to 28 Weeks
A visit about every 4 weeks.
28 to 36 Weeks
A visit every 2 to 3 weeks as your due date gets closer.
36 Weeks to Delivery
Weekly visits, which may include a cervical exam.
After 40 Weeks
Visits twice a week, with extra monitoring for you and your baby.
- YOUR PREGNANCY, YOUR JOURNEY
Your Prenatal Care Timeline
Every pregnancy is unique, but most follow a similar path. Here is what typically happens at each stage of your care — your provider will tailor the plan to you.
Weeks 5–10: Your First Visit
Confirming your pregnancy, your health history and a physical exam, prenatal bloodwork, genetic carrier screening and usually an early ultrasound.
Weeks 10–14: Early Screening
Optional non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) and first-trimester screening, including a nuchal translucency ultrasound.
Weeks 15–21: Anatomy Ultrasound
Second-trimester screening and a detailed ultrasound around 18–21 weeks to look closely at your baby’s development.
Weeks 24–30: Screening & Planning
Glucose testing for gestational diabetes, anemia and blood-type checks, pre-registering for delivery and choosing a pediatrician.
Weeks 32–36: Getting Ready
A growth ultrasound around 32–34 weeks and a group B strep test at 35–36 weeks as you prepare for delivery.
Weeks 36–41: Final Weeks
Weekly visits; after 40 weeks, extra monitoring such as an ultrasound and non-stress test, and a talk about next steps if labor hasn’t started.

Pregnancy Care Questions
Answers to common questions about prenatal care at HM Medical.
When should I schedule my first prenatal visit?
Call us once you have a positive pregnancy test. Most first visits take place between 5 and 10 weeks, and include your health history, an exam, prenatal bloodwork and usually an early ultrasound.
What happens at each prenatal visit?
We check your weight, blood pressure, your baby’s heartbeat and a urine sample. From about 20 weeks we also measure your belly to follow your baby’s growth — and there is always time for your questions.
Do you care for high-risk pregnancies?
Yes. We provide closer monitoring and coordinated care when a pregnancy needs extra attention, and refer to perinatal and genetic specialists when needed.
What should I bring to my first visit?
Your photo ID, insurance card, a list of medications and supplements, and any previous medical records. Patient forms are on our website, and arriving a few minutes early helps us start on time.
Who will care for me during delivery?
Our physicians care for you through labor and delivery. Around 28 weeks we’ll help you plan ahead — pre-registering for delivery, choosing a pediatrician and signing up for childbirth classes — and we’ll go over your birth preferences with you.
Who will I reach if I call after hours?
Our answering service connects you with one of our physicians, day or night. For a medical emergency, always call 911.
Which ultrasounds will I have?
Usually an early ultrasound to confirm your due date, an optional nuchal translucency scan at 10–14 weeks, a detailed anatomy scan around 18–21 weeks and a growth scan around 32–34 weeks. Your provider may recommend others.
When is my postpartum visit?
About 6 weeks after a vaginal delivery. After a cesarean, we see you at about 2 weeks to check your incision and again at 6 weeks.
